The riverfront run was nostalgic and beautiful. I think I was about 2 weeks late as the fall leaves and colors were pretty much faded already, but it was so fun to run through my old Dental School haunts. Rick and I both realized that there are quite a few things about Nebraska we miss, although we are happy to be in Arizona. Life was just a little bit simpler there, and we had some amazing times.

The run in Silver Creek didn't go great. My goal was 11 miles, and I think I made it only 8.43. Honestly, I slept in too late and ran out of time to complete it before I had to shower and get ready to drive back to the airport in Omaha. I really don't have a good excuse. I just slept until 9am instead of getting up at 7am as I had planned.
After not completing that long run, I think I was disappointed enough in myself that it carried through into last week. I had a great Tuesday evening run after work (4 miles) and then honestly, despite it constantly being on my mind, I didn't complete another run all week.
Pathetically, on Friday, I got up and got out the door with Bella to run, only to decide that I was too tired to run and went back inside and went back to bed. HOW PATHETIC IS THAT? Poor Bella. I think she was pretty disappointed. I am embarrased about this but I figure there is no point in not disclosing my failure as I'm really only lying to myself.
Yesterday, Bella and I completed the long run of 12 miles. I feel renewed dedication today because I ran 12 miles yesterday and am actually able to walk today. To be completely forthcoming about yesterday's long run, it WAS the first long run (and really the first run at all) that I have walked a little bit on. Most of it was mental, I think because I missed enough training runs in the last two weeks that I didn't think there was any possible way I could finish the 12 miles.
At the very end of the run my right knee really started hurting. It was really hurting so much that I literally couldn't run. . . and had to resort to walking about the last half mile. My knee would calm down when I would walk but when I tried to run, it was really unbearable. I iced and rested it a ton yesterday and I'm icing it again right now and then I'm going to sit in the hottub. It feels remarkably better today, and I'm absolutely crossing my fingers that I can run tomorrow morning!
You see, I have extra motivation to run this week because next weekend, I'm running my first half marathon! I'm so excited! I'll be heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma to run the Route 66 Marathon. I've been planning it for several months because I knew that it was the weekend that I needed to do a 14 mile long run, and so I thought it would be fun to get some race experience. My much faster, much more experienced Uncle and cousin are running the full marathon in Tulsa. I'm very excited to see them and (sorta) run with them. It's funny though because I figured out that I am so slow and they are so fast that I will likely finish the half marathon at about the same time they finish the full marathon. But whatever, I'm still excited.
I'm excited to have a solitary weekend to go spoil myself in a hotel and metally prepare for my FIRST half marathon! I've got a busy week ahead, but I really hope to write more about the half marathon as well as an equipment update before I go. Until then, I just wanted to jot down a quick line so that you know that I haven't fallen of the face of the Earth. I'm still here . . . still trying to train for the marathon.
